A wonderful and rare, "©1903 Stereoview Photo, Woman Milking the Goats, Hardanger Fjord, Norway." Manufacturers and Publishers: Keystone View Company. Measures approx. 7” x 3-1/2 (≈ 17.5 X 8.5m.)
If you've never been to the Fjords of Norway, here's your chance to see what it was like in 1903. The scene was photographed at a Norwegian home near the town of Odde. According to the back of the card the goats need to get milked every morning, and it was a very lucrative business for the goat herder's. Personally the position that woman is in doesn't look very comfortable, but maybe if you do it every day you get used to it. If you look closely in the picture you can see the handmade wooden pail and other evidence of primitive methods of civilization. Notice the little girl and the grandma in the background in the doorway of the hut too.
When the goats weren't being milked they spent most of their time in the past years on the rocky slopes of the mountains behind the house. To say there's a lot of rocks in Norway would be an understatement. The home in this picture is made from rocks and the goats apparently like to climb on the rocks… But at Night they returned to sleep in the stable behind the house. Although it looks like a primitive life for three subjects in this photo looks like they're healthy and happy and well clothed.
This lovely stereoview card from Norway is in excellent condition. There's no flaws worth mentioning anywhere in the front or the back. The back it's a little bit difficult to read, but that's just the way it was created. It's not a flaw. This is an exceptional photo, and because of the way it was taken, the 3-D scene really pops out.
Please see all of the photos above to confirm the contents and condition of this stereoview.
