c1900 Stereoview Anglo-Boers War, South Africa - Underwood & Underwood ...British patriotism was quite high in the Victorian era, and there were many photographers willing to make money by faking scenes from this war. One website we saw, shows 95 of these stereoviews, and explains all the inaccuracies in each one. It is in very condition, with strong edges and corners. Each photo is clean and crisp, and of sharp focus. The back of the card is also clean ... except where a child probably decided to practice their handwriting. Rare and intriguing "c1900 Stereoview Anglo-Boers War, South Africa - Underwood & Underwood … Entertaining Fake?."
This stereoview from Underwood & Underwood dated 1900, purports to show a live action shot of the Worchesters skirmishing with the Boers near Colesburg (South Afrika) on Feb. 19th, 1900.  It conveniently states this in six languages on the back of the card.
The three things that are true are, 1) the Anglo-Boers War did take place in 1900 (and 1901),  the (2) photos for this stereoview were taken around that time, and 3) the stereoview was produced by Underwood and Underwood.
The British patriotism was quite high in the Victorian era, and there was no lack of photographers willing to make money of that sentiment, by faking scenes from this war.  One website we saw, shows 95 of these stereoviews, and explains all the inaccuracies and impossibilities in each of the photos/stereoviews.

This handsome stereoview  measures approximately 7-14" x 3 1/2" (≈17.7 cm. X 8.4 cm.) and it is in very condition.  The edges and corners are strong and faultless.  Each of the two photos which make up the stereoview  are clean and crisp.  They are of sharp focus, the contrast is strong and the tonality rich.  The back of the card is also clean … except where someone … a child probably decided to use it to practice their handwriting.   We think they need more practice.
