A complete set of Skoda Plzen pins from the late 1970's. They consist of 6 pin badges of differing colours pinned into a card.
The badge faces are 1cm in diameter and each have a long, stick pin fastener.
Historical Background
Skoda, formed in 1859 as an armaments factory, produced their first car in 1905
Skoda produced modern cars up until the communist coup in 1948 whereupon they were largely cut off from Western markets. The 1960's onward saw a range of production cars that were based on outdated designs.
Since the 1990's Skoda has been transformed by its partnership with VW of Germany into a very successful automotive company. Sales in 1991 were around 170 thousand new cars and in 2010 were 760 thousand.
