RARE EARLY CONSTRUCTION OF ST. PATRICK ‘ S CATHEDRAL , NYC, STEREOVIEW. (Used)Up for auction is a rare original stereoview of the early construction of ST. PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL (circa 1870) The stereoview image has three men posing outside the CATHEDRAL at 5th Avenue and 51 th Street as it under construction. The right side of the image has 2 soiled stains on the pavement probably caused in preparing the albumin print but it could mistaken for residual rain and does not does not affect the 3-D image. The verso of the mount has no backmark but a previous owner penned “ G. C. Canfield , No. 32 “ The corners of the mount has slight normal wearing.
ST. PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL construction began in 1858 but was halted in the Civil War and resumed in 1865. It was completed in 1878 and was dedicated on May 25, 1879.
