Teen boy, elderly woman shot outside Passaic, NJ apartment complex

A search was underway in New Jersey on Saturday for the person who shot a 71-year-old woman and 13-year-old boy in the parking lot of a housing complex in Passaic.
The gunfire erupted outside the Aspen Place apartments, which is run by the Housing Authority of the City of Passaic, on Friday night around 8 p.m., NJ.com reported.
Passaic Mayor Hector Lora said the female victim, whose name was not released, was guiding her husband into a parking space when she was shot.
“A black car pulled up, shots were fired, and she was unfortunately hit in the neck,” Lora said.
A nearby teenager was also struck in the shoulder, the mayor added. He has not been identified.
Both victims were rushed to an area hospital for treatment and have since been released. Lora said they both continue to recover at home.
Authorities have so far shared few other details about the Friday night violence. It’s not clear what, if any, relationship the victims had with one another.
It’s also unclear what prompted the shooting, but investigators do not believe there’s any ongoing threat to the public.
“We believe this is a specific incident, an isolated incident. I am confident these individuals will be arrested and held accountable,” Lora said.
As of Saturday morning, police had not named any suspects nor had they made any arrests in connection with the case.
Lora said there would be an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues. He also asked that anyone with information about the shooting contact the Passaic Police Department Detective Bureau.
